aAa Analysis Numbers

From its initial introduction, up to the present, the concepts and principles of Animal Analysis have never changed, although the format of explaining it and the simplification of its usage has been refined. As his own experience evolved, William A. "Bill" Weeks simplified the round/sharp Analysis into the six different qualities we know as, Dairy, Tall, Open, Strong, Smooth, and Style.

Among these six qualities there is a recognizable separation of round and sharp: Dairy, Tall and Open are qualities that make a cow sharper. Strong, Smooth and Style are qualities that make a cow rounder.

Bill Weeks stated that these six qualities are of equal importance and that they are essential to the important functions and performances of a dairy cow. Each of these six qualities is a combination of positive characteristics. Dairy producers can bring these qualities and characteristics into balance by using the additional information provided by Animal Analysis, thereby maximizing the potential of each calf born and minimizing problems in the next generation of their dairy cows.

Understanding Analysis Numbers of cows and bulls...

For a cow, analysis numbers show the qualities she needs in order of priority from left to right. The numbers 435, for example, show that she needs Strong, Open, and Smooth. For a bull, analysis numbers show which qualities he adds in a mating, in order of priority from left to right, for example 435216. It is important to note that priority order from left to right should not be confused with best to worst, but simply the qualities he adds first to last.

Applying Analysis Numbers of cows and bulls...

The effective use of cows' aAa and Weeks numbers by matching with the bulls will increase the odds of improving the next generation and of getting an above average daughter of the bull used. For Example: When a cow is analyzed needing qualities 435 (Strong, Open, Smooth), consider bulls with aAa qualities 435, 453, 345, 432, 543, 354, or 534 as his first three numbers to get his better daughters.
